Offshore Islamorada - September 14th, 2006
Headed down to Islamorada from Jacksonville late wednesday (9/13) for some fishing and loberstering. Booked a charter with Capt. Steve Leopold of the Yabba Dabba Doo courtesy of searching the Florida Sportsman forums. Steve explained the dolphin were hit and miss this time of year but we decided to have at it since we can catch Kingfish in jacksonville and we didn't drive 6 hours for no stinkin Kings Found a nice weedline in about 800 feet (19-20 miles) and we were soon on some dolphin. 2 Big bulls with the school (1 we got). Lost about as many fish as we caught due to tangling lines and perhaps a more aggressive beer consumption rate (Bachelor Weekend) than normal? Hit a second school shortly after and pulled in some nice fish and lost the big bull (again to crossed lines). Trolled another hour or so and decided to head in for some Yellowtail snapper fishing on the edge of the reefline. Put 20 or so yellowtail in the box along with a mutton. Plenty of action. Just the day we had hoped for!
The bachelor gets the bull

Captain was great. Respected our desire to find the phins vs. reef fish...guess phins are fairly sporadic this time of year. Boat was nice sportfish, AC, etc. Price was $1000/full day.
