Toadfish

Bill Sabo from St Auggie writes today in the St Auggie Record that toadfish actually tastes pretty good. How big do they get? I don't recall seeing any more than about 7 or 8 inches long. Hey, what's next? I still remember Jim Hammond writing a column that said he marinated some jacks in italian salad dressing and it was pretty good! He musta been awful hungry--but we all know he ain't missed too many meals lately.

Re: Toadfish

I've heard of soup being made from toadfish, but I'm not one to try it. Darn things are just too ugly for my taste.

Re: Toadfish

Not even if they're low-carb? Hey, "ugly" can carry a lot of connotations, but some things which might be deemed "ugly" by some certainly fall into the "will eat" category! Maybe a toadfish fish fry is in order!

Even I, eater of sharks and maybe a ray or two, will NOT be posting a recipe for TOADFISH STEW. UGH!

Definitely not, even if they're listed in Atkins book!

Aw, C'mon!
Live a little guys! Have an open mind. Although they might be ugly- you never know how "good" they might be.
And Jim- if you fish the rocks enough you'll no doubt catch a "braggin sized" toad when he scarfs half a pogie down his maw.
The trick to landin that braggin' sized toad is to NOT let him carry your offering back into the hole.

Re: Toadfish AKA "Golden Grouper"

I'm seriously considering trying toadfish. I don't expect to get much meat from the upper body, but they should have a good amount on the tail. If I'll try stingray, I'll try toadfish. I'll try to eat just about anything once.

I think I might just have to try it also. We can have a forum toad fish cook off !!

We could have a toad fish tourniment to take the pressure off the reds. Catagories: largest, ugliest, slimiest.

OK, I'm in. I swore I'd never try it, but if I get a big enough one, I will.

Gee, is the revival of this thread an indicator of just how bad the inshore fishing has been lately?

Truly great threads die hard!!!

We've been around here since 1998 as a website and as a bulletin board way before that.

The oldest post saved here in the archives (that I know of) dates to Tue Mar 13 2001 08:08 PM. Previous posts have been lost over the years ... I dunno ... that was even before my time. Have to ask Mark about anything before that.

Re: Toadfish AKA "Golden Grouper"

I can't believe this 2003 post just keeps going and going and going like the Energizer bunny. Remember, I'm the one who "will eat anything" at least once. So, I guess it will be up to me to try the toadfish and sea robin. I already eat stingrays, sharks, and other stuff. I even ate the bonito (little tunny) and tried the big black drum. Yuck!

OK, bring on the sea robin.

According to my fish ID book, sea robin is supposed to be quite tasty.
