Submerged Island

In order to bring you the necessary information about this island and still give you landmarks to fish by we have enlarged it all out of proportion to the rest of the areas shown. This island is rarely ever fished simply because it is not visible and very few people know it is there.

Those who do know, have brought out some of the largest black bass caught in the St. Johns. It is a natural structure feeding from deep holes nearby. The fish move up on top of the island when on migration and never head for the shoreline as most bass do.

The break varies from one to three feet but is exactly at the right depth for big bass fishing. If trolling, follow the break line very closely until the fish are located. Anchor above the island and fish out over the break.

Shiner fishermen do real well here. If bites are slow they move the boat around a few feet at a time, fan casting the area with their shiners. When they find the school they sit there until they sinkthe boat with fish.

All types of fish are found here with black bass, red bass, flounder, jack crevalle, croakers, catfish, etc. dominating the scene.

Use the landmarks shown. Line up the white house on Magnolia Point with Marker 19 cruise a straight line. If you are not using a depth locator. sound with a lead line until the break is found.

Note: The maps which go along with the 200 Square Miles of Fish publication ARE OUTDATED and simply for informational purposes. DO NOT use for navigational purposes. Use at your Own Risk.

Magnolia is just north of Governors creek, maybe you will snag my 15hp kicker I lost this summer!
